The customer's program manager frames the question this way: the Twin already tells rework operators what to do at the line. It now also surfaces what module owners need to decide each Tuesday.
Production Inspector has been live on the customer's lead-plant production line since 2025, ingesting wiring-harness data, BoMs, communication diagrams and 3D models against the new electric architecture. Rework operators scan a VIN; the Twin returns the vehicle-specific configuration. Adjacent plants are onboarding on the shared architecture. That deployment is not the subject of this story. It is the precondition for it.
The R&D pilot is the second surface. The customer convenes 30 to 60 senior module owners every Tuesday to present status against committed maturity gates, hardware, software, validation, ramp readiness. The hour is spent collecting status, not deciding on it. The same engineering ontology serves the production-line operator and the program manager, on the same data, for two classes of user. Same Twin. Different surface.
Why program reviews stop working at this scale
At 30 to 60 module owners per weekly review, the meeting stops being a decision exercise and becomes a status-collection exercise. Each owner reads a slide, the room nods, the surfaced risks aren't surfaced at all. On a new electric architecture under ramp pressure, the cost of a module silently slipping its maturity gate is no longer absorbable.
The job is to change which questions the room answers, and what answers them.
What changes in the review
For program managers running module-readiness reviews, the workflow change is concrete:
- Module status comes from the same Product Twin that resolves VIN-specific configurations at the rework station, one source of truth across R&D and production views.
- Where is the module on the maturity curve? resolves as a dashboard query, not a status-collection exercise.
- The review compresses to what to do about the surfaced modules, not what state each is in.
What the production-side deployment proves, and what it does not
Production Inspector is live at the lead plant. That is the existence proof: the engineering ontology ingests harness, BoM, communication-diagram and CAD data; the VIN-specific Twin resolves at the workstation; rework operators query it instead of senior engineers. That part is no longer hypothetical at this customer.
The rework operator's question ("what is wrong with this VIN?") and the module owner's question ("which of my thirty modules need a decision this Tuesday?") sit on the same data but resolve through different views. One ontology carries both surfaces. An R&D module's maturity status and its production-side error trace come from the same source of truth, with no reconciliation gap between what the program owner sees on Tuesday and what the rework operator sees on Wednesday.
The value math at program-review scale
A program review at this scale convenes 30–60 named module owners and adjacent stakeholders (R&D, validation, ramp planning, commercial), each delivering status against committed gates. Industry-benchmark scaling puts the weekly cost at the order of 60–100 collective person-hours of preparation, presentation and decision time. These are inputs the deployment compresses.
The structural argument is that status no longer rolls up through PowerPoint authored module-by-module; it rolls up through the dashboard, drawn from the same Twin that already serves the line. The room's hour shifts from what state is each module in? to which decisions need to be made about the surfaced ones?
What the pilot is bounded to, and what it isn't
Scope is held tight: one weekly R&D program review, one Twin, for the duration of validation. The pilot is not a re-evaluation of the production-line deployment, that is live and continuing under its own program. The candidate next step, if module-readiness lands in the Tuesday review, is extending the same dashboard pattern back onto ramp-line maturity, closing the loop between R&D maturity gates and production readiness on a single Twin.
The harder problem isn't technical. A module-readiness dashboard surfaces underperformance in front of the people who own it, which is the point. The vendor's job is to make the surfacing legible. The customer's job is to act on it. The pilot is the structured test of both halves at once.
